Board role and responsibility

• As a registered non-profit, TWV is required to have a governance Board to provide oversight and policy-makingsome text
  • The day-to-day operations of TWV are managed by the Executive Director and staff
  • The Board makes policies, fundraises, recruits and oversees the Executor Director
  • The Board is responsible for governance and financial accountability for TWV
  • Board members act as ambassadors for TWV in promoting the organization in the community at large  
• Board members do not need to be cyclists themselves, but must support the mission, vision, and values of TWV

• TWV was founded in 2000 as a grassroots, Calgary based non-profit to serve youth through the bicycle
• While the work that TWV does is related to and around cycling, the overall objective is building the confidence and capacity of youth who are experiencing challenges
• TWV is a proactive organization that is building community and capacity in marginalized communities

Time commitment

• A minimum three-year commitment 
• The time commitment varies from month to month but will average between 8 to 10 hours per month
• Board members must attend 8 general board meetings, as well as participate in 2 committees (the committees meet generally every other month)

Ideal candidate

• The ideal candidate is passionate about serving youth and has skills in communications, fundraising, accounting/financial management

This is a voluntary position with no compensation.

TWV is committed to building a Board that reflects the wider community at large. TWV acknowledges and understands that this is a work in progress, which will require constant reflection and evaluation of how privilege and barriers affect the ability of people from marginalized communities to participate. TWV values diversity and equality, specifically but not limited to reflecting diversity in areas of gender, sexuality, race/ethnicity, Indigeneity, neurodivergence, disability, and other underrepresented/underprivileged communities.
